  • Biography: Ronald M. Telpner - Chairman and CEO The BrainStorm Group When it comes to building brands and attracting consumers to those brands, Ron’s track record has earned him an international reputation for excellence. The vision for his agency, based on marrying commerce and creativity has helped differentiate The BrainStorm Group from more traditional agencies. After 30 years of working with some of the worlds’ leading brands, his enthusiasm and passion for helping businesses grow is still contagious. Ron has degrees in English Literature and Psychology from University of Manitoba and in 1973 earned a Masters of Journalism degree from Carlton University in Ottawa. Starting his career as a journalist, Ron later joined the public sector as an Information Officer. His drive and intelligence was recognized with his appointment as Director of Promotion and Information for the Government of Manitoba at 26 years of age. Frustrated by the pace and process, he joined McKim Advertising in Winnipeg in1978 and became Manager the following year. During his tenure there, the office dominated the Winnipeg advertising scene. Rising through the ranks, Ron’s reputation as a creative thinker and writer grew, as he developed numerous successful strategic and creative campaigns for both the private and public sector. He wrote speeches for several politicians including the then Premier of Manitoba and Canada’s Minister Finance, strategized numerous election campaigns, and contributed to the growth of some of North America’s best know companies. Still with McKim, by then Canada’s largest ad agency, Ron moved to Toronto in late 1989 as Executive Vice President. Over the next two years, the company merged with Baker Lovick, another leading Canadian agency, and was sold to BBDO in New York. Ron became Chairman of the Canadian operation and continued in that role until late 1992 when he founded The BrainStorm Group. The BrainStorm Group was to be an agency that focused on inspired, integrated, thinking with plans for an international client base. He convinced his senior creative director and his senior account director, from Winnipeg to move to Toronto, to become partners in this new venture. That partnership continues to flourish. Since that time, Ron and his talented team have earned the trust of brands like Canon, Cadbury, Roche, Jones New York, Polo Ralph Lauren, Kenneth Cole, Russell Financial, Molson USA, Baxter’s of Scotland, and ADP in Canada and the U.S. and many more. In 2003 The BrainStorm Group opened its first U.S. office in Denver, and in 2007 partnered with E media, to be the first Canadian ad agency to open in Dubai. Ron’s energy and originality show through in everything he does…and wears. He has appeared on numerous television programs, writes a regular marketing column, MC’s a variety of fund raising events and continues to speak about his brand of marketing and the importance of big ideas, throughout North America, the UK and the Middle East.
