Two words. Imerman Angels.
Imerman Angels is an amazing organization that provides connections between cancer fighters and cancer survivors. Specifically, they take the time to personally introduce a cancer fighter to someone who has survived the same type of cancer. That survivor provides personal insight and has first hand knowledge of what the fighter is and will be going through.
Speaking to someone who has survived the same type of cancer sends an incredibly strong message that "my cancer can be beat!"

First Descents is an amazing organization for cancer survivors-ages 18-39-that helps each individual find the physical and emotional strength they have within themselves to continue their recovery process with their disease. In one week, with a staff ratio of 1:4, 15 campers come together with a volunteer team of medical personel and instructors who teach campers skills for kayaking, whitewater rafting, mountain climbing, team building and more. Campers leave with a new awareness of self, independence and peer support. Volunteers leave with a sense of awe at the strength and courage each camper shares with one another. Everyone learns the greatest lessons for living life through them and build friendships with them to last a lifetime. It's reality check of the important matters of life itself from young adults who treasure every day they have, as we all should. Life is a gift.
