Our goal is to permanently legalize CFC MDIs (chlorofluorocarbon metered-dose inhalers) by an organized, disciplined lobbying campaign of Congress and the Administration in order to have them AMEND THE CLEAN AIR ACT. Understand that we are looking at the November 2010 federal elections as a deadline for this campaign. Amending the Clean air Act is an ENORMOUS goal and 1-2 years is a very ambitious timetable for this campaign. THE ONLY WAY TO ACHIEVE OUR GOAL IS TO LAUNCH A POLITICAL CAMPAIGN TO AMEND THE CLEAN AIR ACT. THIS CAN AND WILL WORK IF WE CAN RECRUIT JUST 1% OF THE 40 MILLION PULMONARY PATIENTS who use CFC MDIs.
HOW WE’LL ACHIEVE OUR GOAL:
The details of our campaign are explained on the ‘Make Five Phone Calls’ page of our website which will give you the steps in order to quickly identify your CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT NUMBER as well as the phone numbers of your THREE POLITICAL TARGETS. If you don’t understand the directions on how to obtain your Congressional District number, email us at www.savecfcinhalers.org with your street address, including zip code, and we’ll get your Congressional District Number for you (as well as the names and phone numbers of your THREE POLITICAL TARGETS, PRESIDENT BUSH, AND THE PRESIDENT-ELECT (McCain or Obama).
We ask that you start making calls to your political targets on November 5. Please email us with any significant information you obtain after making your calls. We will need to keep track of all Senators’ and Representatives’ positions regarding the CFC inhaler ban so your feedback via email will be highly useful.
Note: Please notify us if any of your THREE POLITICAL TARGETS (your two U.S. Senators and your U.S. Representative) are defeated on November 4, along with the name of their replacement.

We will be issuing our first of twenty press releases shortly after the election. The first subject will be the results of our 3 year review of FDA MedWatch data comparing CFC to HFA rescue MDIs. We will do whatever we need to do to accommodate our physician-petitioners. We know that there are MANY physicians who want to save CFC inhalers and many of them will want to join our campaign. And the same applies to ALL of the medical professionals who have signed our petition: our PhD pharmacologists and chemists, our RNs, our RRTs- to all of you: THANK YOU. YOU are the tip of the spear.
A NOTE TO ENVIRONMENTALISTS:
If you belong to the National Resources Defense Council, the Friends of the Earth, or the Sierra Club, consider contacting them and seeing if they would consider remaining neutral in the upcoming battle to save CFC inhalers. It’s a long shot, but it can’t hurt to try. They’re not going to enhance their public image by fighting to deprive sick kids of their CFC MDIs- and if they have any sense, they WILL sit this one out. See what you can do, and feel free to email us to discuss this.
DONATIONS:

If we have 400,000 organized, disciplined, relentless petitioners - just 1% of 40 million pulmonary patients- plus a family member or close friend for each, then we’d have 800,000 VOTERS lobbying Congress and the Administration, and we WILL WIN this fight. This is a numbers game. If we have enough numbers, we win, if not, we lose. We are confident that our press releases will help to spreading the word and result in a substantial increase in petitioners.

We have paid ALL expenses out of our own pockets and sacrificed a tremendous amount of time on this over the last year and a half. We will continue to do the best we can to win this fight, and we ask that you donate in order to help us curtail expenses and keep our campaign website and petitioner mailing list going. As our petitioner numbers grow, our monthly costs will grow, and could reach up to $1,000.00 per month. The day will come, fairly quickly, when we will ask you to donate some money by check, credit card, PayPal. The details will be announced soon. We will regularly disclose the total of all funds we receive, and we will disclose what the money is spent on (at this point- our only concern is the maintenance of the mailing list). When we ask for these funds, we ask that you respond quickly with whatever amount you can afford. We know that the economy is bad and is going to get much worse, and some of you are unable to contribute. We understand that, but give what you able to, because every little bit helps.

We will work to defeat our opponents politically and help our friends based on the email feedback we get from YOU, state by state, Congressional District by Congressional District.
We expect the response to our first press release announcing the significant dangers of HFA MDIs compared to CFC MDIs to be huge. It will be released on the MOST respected health news service which is opted into by 4,500 health reporters from every newspaper, magazine, television, radio, and online news service you can think of. We ask those of you who are able to do so to support this campaign quickly when our petitioner numbers grow.
POLITICS:

This campaign will live or die based on the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, chaired by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), ranking minority member Senator James Inhofe (R-OK).

This Committee has jurisdiction of the Clean Air Act, which must be amended to permanently legalize CFC MDIs. Senator Boxer is a friend of the environmentalists- some have referred to her as the next ‘Al Gore’. Senator Inhofe is the only man in Congress to call environmental junk science, junk science. He is a man of courage and conviction and he is our last, best hope in Congress. He is our natural ally, and we have been in contact with his staff and we have an excellent relationship with them. We hope that Senator Inhofe will sponsor the legislation we need to amend the Clean Air Act, perhaps he will be joined by his friend John Dingell, (D-Michigan) chair of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, which has jurisdiction over the FDA as well as environmental issues, and Dingell has no love for the FDA or the EPA.

Jim Inhofe is up for re-election on November 4, and he enjoys a comfortable double-digit lead, despite a nationally financed smear campaign launched by the enviro-frauds to defeat him. (Senator Boxer is up for re-election in November 2010). Most of our campaign management team votes Democrat. Most of you probably do as well. It doesn’t matter. Jim Inhofe is a friend of ours- and if you REALLY want to save CFC MDIs, Jim Inhofe is a friend of yours, too.

Jim Inhofe will win re-election. And he will do the right thing whether we contribute to his campaign or not, because he is an honorable man. But… we are asking all of you to donate something to his campaign right now- this minute- BEFORE the election- and then email us at sponsor@savecfcinhalers.org and give us your name (you don’t need to tell us how much you donated- just give us your name, city and state. We will notify his campaign of the petitioners who donated to him- and if A LARGE NUMBER OF US DONATE SOMETHING- it will put us on the map as an organized, disciplined political campaign and give us the credibility we need to do what we need to do.

Donating money to Jim Inhofe will help US much more than it will help Jim. He’ll win either way. It doesn’t matter if you hate Republicans, it only matters that you want to save CFC MDIs. Let’s support this ONE POLITICIAN who is not owned by the enviro-frauds OR the drug companies- the only one to stand up and push back against the junk science that has cost you your CFC MDI.
