T. Boone Pickens. With a name like that, do you have any other choice than becoming an oil magnate? (Chicken or the egg?). Or more importantly, what happens when a man responsible for one of the largest energy funds decides that "more drilling" is not the solution to America's rising oil prices? How about the Pickens Plan?

As you can see in this brief video, he thinks wind power and natural gas can decrease the $700 billion we send to the Middle East each year for oil. To show that he is not all talk, he has already taken action in building the world's largest wind farm, ordering the first 667 wind turbines from General Electric.

He claims that the U.S. is the "Saudi Arabia of wind power," with states such as North Dakota being able to supply electricity for a quarter of the country. Now, I haven't spent much time in the Great Plains, but I certainly believe that it's windy out there. Plus, the wind farms will provide construction, maintenance, and manufacturing jobs for thousands of American workers.

Looks like a win-win-win situation (I'm not sure what the 3rd win is for, but that's what it is).

From the viewpoint of those of us here in Massachusetts, the issue is always job creation and retention. Wind energy seems to be a perfect solution. Wind is something we have plenty 0f - onshore, offshore and in state government!
